What where pyramids made for?

Pyramids where made for the great kings of the dead. The Ancient Egyptians believed when a pharaoh died he became Osiris, King of the dead. Then the new pharaoh that replaces the one that died becomes Horus, god of the heavens and protector of the sun god. These cycles were made because of the rising and setting of the sun.

.The pharaohs Ka or spirit, is said to still be in his body. The ancient Egyptians thought if the body was not treated with special care, that the pharaoh would not be able to carry out his new job as King of the Dead. If this happened then the cycle would break and Egypt would go into disaster.

To prevent this each dead pharaoh was mummified. Everything the king would ever need was placed inside his tomb (pyramid). They put in vessels made of stone, clay, and gold. Even long after his death, pharaohs received food offerings.

Pyramids were made for tombs only for Pharaohs. Sometimes they weren't pyramids but massive tombs. Before pyramids tombs were just carved into bedrock topped with flat-roofed structures called mastabas. Mounds of dirt would sometimes top the structure.

The pyramid shape could have came from these mounds of dirt. More likely, Egyptians molded the pyramids on a sacred, pointed rock called benben. The Benben symbolized the rays of the sun; its said that pharaohs reach heaven via sunbeams.

Who built the pyramids?

The Ancient Egyptians built the pyramids, or the Hebrews.
