Depression in Culture

In the American culture, depression is being viewed by the masses in an increasingly distorted way. Used as a rationalization for many people when they reflect upon their lives, depression is not only over diagnosed, but also falsely projected as trivial. We are in a stage of incomplete research, because depression research isn’t being invested in as much as it should be. After researchers found out what chemical imbalances coincided with depression and other researchers were able to make a pill to counteract this imbalance, most businesses were done investing. There is still reseach on why people get depressed and the numbers of depressed people all around the world, but not enough research has been done to ensure concrete diagnostic practices.

   Jobs
The way people live greatly affects how they’ll behave, think, and most importantly: feel. Studies have shown that the following careers have very high rates of depression among workers.

The results from http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,216... are as follows:

 1. Law
 2. Patent Attorney
 3. Insurance underwriting
 4. Accounting
 5. IT services
 6. Architectural
 7. Actuarial Firm
 8. Engineering
 9. Consulting
 10. Insurance brokering

Unfortunately, many jobs that people aspire to have because of benefits, security, and a steady paycheck are also high stress jobs or work environments. If a person is stressing out from 9-5, not only are they going to be tense, but they’ll probably lash out when they get home and end up negatively affecting their relationships too.
