Collared Forest-Falcon
Scientific name:  Micrastur semitorquatus
Family Name:  Falconidae
Are they endangered?  No, they are not endangered.  (ICUN Red list:  Least Concern)
What are their past/present problems?  There are no current problems.
What do they look like?  These birds have black backs and wings. Their tails are black with white stripes.  Their legs and beaks are yellow.  Their eyes are circled with yellow.
How big are they?  These birds are about 22-24 inches long.  If they fully spread them out, their wings would be about 2 ½ - 3 feet wide.
How many eggs do they lay?  Females lay 2 beige/brown eggs once a year.  They hatch in 28 – 34 days.
How long do the fledglings stay in the nest?  They usually use already made nests in holes in trees.  The young birds (chicks) stay in the nest for 4 weeks.

When do they hunt?  They hunt during the day. (diurnal)
What do they eat?  They eat birds, mammals, and lizards.
Where do they live?  They are found in Brazil, U.S., Venezuela, Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador, Argentina, and Mexico.
What kind of place do they like to live in?  These birds like really thick forests.  If there is an open area, they will fly around it, staying close to the edge of the forest.
Interesting facts:
One of their calls sounds like laughing.
These birds do not migrate.
These birds can easily fly through lots of trees.
These birds hear very well.
