Chat rooms

Chat rooms can be very fun. Meeting friends online, meeting new people who like the same things you do. But is meeting people online really safe? There are many dangers in chat rooms. Not many young people know about these dangers.

How Chat Rooms Can be Made Safe
Some chat rooms have special precautions against these. A Chat room hosted on Miniclip, called Club Penguin, is aimed at younger children, and has filters that will ban you temporarily from the site if you attempt to swear, and not show these swearing messages. If you get temporarily banned too many times you will be banned permanently.

This particular site also has different servers/rooms which do not allow you to say things of your own free will. There is a box from which you can choose a phrase from. These servers/rooms are aimed at young children with protective parents to prevent their children becoming prey to a paedophile.

In most chat rooms there is a moderator who will oversee all conversations and appropriately remove users who are swearing/making racist comments etc.

Meeting Up

Lots of young adults today are using chat rooms to easily talk to friends, and sometimes even make friends with new people. This can seem innocent enough but many people are meeting up with their new found friends which is very dangerous.
