Description
We
designed a quick 1-minute survey to collect information on bullying in
schools from Asia and the US. Five short questions could be answered by
checking one or more responses. Apart from a single question about the
country a child came from, no identifying information about the child
or his/her school was collected.
112 children completed the survey. They came from 11 different countries and study in a U.S. or Asian school.
This is a great way to learn about bullying in your school, neighborhood, or country. Also, when kids take a survey and think about the results, they can learn about other children's ideas. If you create your own survey, you can use our questions or create your own.

Q5. Other actions by classmates (listed by the survey respondents)
- Sit next to him/her at lunch
- Find
out things about this person because maybe they have a lot of things in
common with me and make them feel welcome to the new school or classroom
- Make them feel welcome in your classroom
- I say, do you want to play with me
- Try and help him/her and show him/her around the school
- Pick the newcomer for a partner in gym or a game played at recess or during class
- Ask to be their friend
- Talk to them and make them comforted
- Give them a present
- Play with them outside
- Tell him about our class!
- Make the person fit in
- Try to involve him/her in games such as football and handball because the newcomer may feel afraid to ask if he/she can play
