Multicultural Words You Should Know
Bias: A personal and sometimes unreasoned judgment or prejudice.
Discrimination: A prejudicial outlook, action, or treatment of someone because of a difference.
Stereotype: A picture or belief that is held in common about members of a group and that is an oversimplified opinion, prejudiced attitude, or uncritical judgment.
Prejudice: A negative opinion formed without just grounds or before enough knowledge about an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics is known.
Ethnocentrism: The attitude that one's own group is superior.
Nationality: A people having a common origin, tradition, and language or an ethnic group constituting one element of a larger unit (as a nation).
Race: A family, tribe, people, or nation unified by shared interests, habits, or characteristics.
Diversity: The inclusion of people of different races or cultures in a group or organization.
Ethnicity: A particular affiliation or group.
Culture: The customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group.
Tolerance: Sympathy for beliefs or practices differing from or conflicting with one's own.
Acceptance: Favorable reception or approval of culture that are different from one’s own.
Biracial: Cultures and people involving members of two races.
Multiracial: Something or someone involving, or representing various races.
