 Did you know that Christianity is the largest religion in the entire world? There are approximately 2.1 billion Christians in the world today. Christians are people who believe in the one God and his son, Jesus. They believe God's will is shown to people through the writings in the Bible.
Christianity Today
Christianity is popular all over the world. In the past, most Christians were in Europe. Today Christians can be found in Europe, Australia, America, Africa, and Asia.
There are many different groups or branches of Christianity. The main groups of Christians are the Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Anglicans, and Protestants. One half of Europe's Christians are Roman Catholics. The pope is the leader of the Roman Catholic religion.
Christians attend church and classes to learn about the Bible. Many of them also do things such as charity work. Following the teachings of the Bible, many Christians try to help people who are less fortunate than them. They also use music to get their message out. There are many types of Christian music including gospel, traditional Christian music, and even Christian rock and rap!
Christianity
The Christian Bible has two main parts called testaments. The Old Testament includes the story of how God created the world without sin. Then he created the people named Adam and Eve. They couldn't resist temptation and Eve did something that God specifically told her not to do. And just like you or me, they were punished for their actions. As the world became more populated and people sinned more and more they started to worship false gods instead of the one true God.
God promised that one day he would send a prophet who would show the right way to live and explain why it was so important that people believe in what he had to say. This prophet, or "savior," would show them how they could live forever with God. Many of the people thought this was pretty crazy, but some believed and waited for this person to come and save them. This didn't happen overnight, but actually took thousands of years. The people who believed that this would actually happen had faith. Someone who has faith believes in something even though he can't see it or explain it; he just knows in his heart that it is the truth.
Life of Jesus
Christians believe that Jesus was the prophet God sent to earth. The parents of Jesus were named Mary and Joseph.
When Joseph married Mary, she was already with child. The Lord told him that the baby was an act of God and that Jesus was God's son. Jesus was the prophet that God had promised the Jews.
The New Testament of the Bible tells the story of Jesus. He was born in Bethlehem. As he got older, he went around the land and performed miracles. One miracle
occurred when Jesus came by a crippled man who couldn't walk, and he cured him. There was
also a man that was blind from birth. When Jesus came by, he made him see again. Jesus healed many people. One of the things he said was, "If you believe, you may live forever with God."
Some of the other religious leaders at the time didn't like hi s teachings because they were afraid that he would get too many followers and no one would believe in their teachings. Jesus was eventually put on trial, and he was sentenced to death on a cross. They put a crown of thorns on his head and forced him to climb a mountain with a cross in his hands. His cross was placed
on the mountain with those of other criminals. They nailed his hands and feet to the cross. As his followers wept, he promised that in three days he would rise from the dead.
The next morning he was dead.
They buried him in a tomb. Three days later he came back from the dead. His prophecy came true!
