Kindness in the Home

Do you think kindness begins at home? Most people agree that the most difficult place to be kind is in the home. Some people say that they find themselves being kinder to strangers than to their own family members. Kind actions show concern and caring. When we show kindness in our family, we are helping every member of the family feel loved. When people feel loved, it is much easier to be kind to others.

Have you ever seen a person who seems to light up the room when they walk into it? They are happy people. They love themselves. Think about that for a moment. If we are not kind to ourselves, then how can we be kind to others? There are many different religious teachings about kindness. "Love your neighbor as yourself." "Treat others the way you want to be treated." If you do not love yourself, then you cannot love others.

Most people believe that kindness is taught by example, usually our parents. People learn to be kind when people are kind to them. Children can learn to encourage and praise others when they are praised and encouraged. It is good for everyone to show love to family members by helping or doing what is needed. When there is a caring attitude in the home, kids learn to care about others.
