"Rosie The Riveter"

This is the original Rosie the Riveter; the famous one is on the homepage

Rosie The Riveter is an icon for all women, she is representing 6 million women who worked in factories during world war II.  They did it while the men were off  fighting for the war.  She is considered a feminist icon of the US.  She represented women's economic power to come.  Rosie the Riveter's slogan was featured in newspapers, magazines, and posters.

The Rosie slogan was painted by J. Howard Miller.  Rosie inspired women to join the workforce. They are still unsure if she was inspired by a real women or not but there was a real women named Rose Monroe that was like Rosie. She wasn't discovered before the posters were made though, and she died at the age of 77.
