Want to see the usefulness of taxicab geometry in action? Check out the Taxicab Mapping Applet below.

Basic instructions:

- You can add and remove points by clicking on the city area (white rectangle).
- The Go! button makes all taxis advance one block further.
- The Clear button, well... clears.
- Red lines constitute the taxicab Voronoi diagram of the points.

(Note: because the applet has to be reasonnably efficient, the city is fairly small, and the diagrams will not look as sharp as they should, but they do give the general idea.)

http://www.physics.orst.edu/~tevian/taxicab/html is a great site that makes the connection between taxicab geometry and analytic trigonometry. It explores the various trig functions and their taxicab analogs.

If you are interested in a taxicab "treasure hunt", http://www.learner.org/teacherslab/math/geometry/shape/taxicab/ contains a fun exploration.
