Open Source in Software World

Only open source gives the freedom and oppurtunity to developers to on the Internet, search and browse for a piece of software or code they want, download it, and start adding their own value to it. And when they are done, give something back to the community, so that, someday, someone else comes across their code and improves it further.

Anyone can now create their own applications, software, operating system, or business model. Open source development models have been proven to drive innovation, leading to lower costs, higher quality and greater efficiency. Developers who discount open source as a cheap copycat of proprietary software are missing an enormous opportunity. Those who embrace it are doing their bit to usher in a future far brighter than anyone can imagine.

The greatness of Open Source lies in the fact that it does away with the system of technological hierarchy in the computer world. A professional coder of a huge MNC is on the same turf as a college student in his dormitory room. And the best part about Open Source is that it is just not restricted! It has potential applications in every field that one can think of. Source codes are just the tip of the iceberg. There is whole new world to explore, and a beautiful one at that. You just need to open up to it and feel the difference.
