Welcome!

The purpose of this site is to provide an informative introduction to Genetic Algorithms: what they are, how they work, who pioneered the field, what kind of problems these algorithms can solve, and current applications of these algorithms. There even is an interactive example of a simplified Genetic Algorithm, which attempts to reformat a picture to 32 colors while maximizing the picture quality, that can be found here. Look to the toolbar on the right to find out more about Genetic Algorithms!

About The Authors

The Tie Dye Sky team really began as each team member's individual interest in web design. Carl and Alex have been friends since elementary school, and their friendship continued even after Carl moved. Together, the two of them have worked on programming games, and making their own website to host these games. When Peter met Carl during their freshmen year, he also became interested in web design, and began to learn HTML and CSS during his free time. When the three of them heard about the Oracle Thinkquest competition, all three simultaneously decided that entering the competition would be both an exciting and worthwill experience.

When choosing the subject matter for our website, Tie Dye Sky determined that it wanted to do something in the field of computer science or science in general, as the whole team shared interest in such a field , but still had no idea what specific topic to chose. However, Peter had recently attended some student-given lectures at MIT, and had been particularily interested in one about Genetic Algorithms. After Peter suggested it to the rest of the team, and all were intruged by the topic, the team decided to choose Genetic Algorithms as it's topic.

Our Coach, Mr. Rhinelander

We'd like to thank our Coach, Mr. Rhinelander, for providing us with the backing we needed to submit this project, and the time he took to register us as a team and complete the formalities necessary for this competition.
