Worldview / Get InvolvedThe Earth is to be inherited by today’s youth, so get involved for a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Earth, for the benefit of all mankind!Reduce, Reuse, Recycle This is also known as the waste hierarchy. It favors avoidance of use in the first place, then using less, then reusing them, recycling, making it energy and lastly, disposal. - Throw drink cans in recycling bins - Find alternative uses of trash - Reuse paper for all sorts of things such as scrap workings for math, origami, then recycle it! Paper can be recycled up to 7 times! - Avoid buying replacements, use refillable pens, detergent, etc. - Instead of buying new electronics, fix old ones - Buy from second-hand shops - Minimize wastage, plan consumption carefully - Buy durable, reusable things, such as metal cutlery over disposable cutlery - Many, many more! Join a youth group Get involved in an environmental group, and do what they do to help the environment! They often do help with the other mentioned, such as promoting awareness. They also help with organizing recycling campaigns and other ecological drives, promoting volunteerism and helping the environment hands on! Not forgetting humanitarian ones, they often raise money for developmental aid and delivering necessities to third-world nations where they cannot afford them. They also carry out donation drives such that the poor can benefit from them! Use environmentally friendly products Being environmentally conscious and friendly isn't difficult! Many products are labeled with eco-friendly tags, then you can be sure you are supporting an eco-friendly company! Take dolphin-friendly tuna for example, their tins have explicit labels that you can use to identify them. Companies which employ sustainable practices are oftentimes portrayed in the media, and you can then support their products! On a more concrete level, you could purchase recycled paper, which is as cheap as normal paper, if not more. That in addition to more durable products, biodegradable ones, and also vegetables that are grown using sustainable agricultural methods. All these let you play a part to the environment, albeit in your own small way! Spread the Message While the power of a few may be great, but it is certainly insufficient to guarantee a sustainable future! Spread the message of sustainable development to create greater awareness and magnify the impact of eco-friendly ways! Advertise on your weblog, website, or various other means! Write an article to your local newspaper, distribute flyers, the lists are endless! Encourage your family to spread the message as well! |
