Environmental / Solutions / Alternative Energy Sources / Solar Power

Solar power is a rather expensive alternative source of energy, especially considering the prohibitive cost of solar powered cells that make up solar farms. However, this cost is mostly a one-off cost, which means that the upkeep for solar farms are typically low, whereas each additional unit of electricity generated does not cost much more.

Solar power can be directly used in ways such as cooking, or it can be stored as electricity, which will later be converted. The latter method adds to the capital cost as conversion counts in the equation.

The sun bombards the earth with huge amounts of energy all the time. Harnessing even a minute fraction of this energy can easily solve all of mankind's energy needs, even considering today's crude technology with an energy conversion rate of only 8%. Mind-boggling is an understatement when it comes to the power of this alternative energy source.
