Every magnet has
two ends. These ends are called poles. The poles are the north pole and the
south pole. If two north poles are touched together, they will push away from
each other. If two south poles are touched together, they will push away from
each other. When they push, they are repelling. If a north and a south pole are
touched together, they will pull together, like they are attached. This is
called attracting. This is where we get the saying, “Opposites attract.”
In this picture, you can see that the north pole of one
magnet is attracted to the south pole of another one. From this picture, you can see that no
matter what shape a magnet is, it has poles and can be attracted to other
magnets. To learn more about poles, visit this web site: http://www.factmonster.com/ce6/sci/A0859426.html
