Water pollution is when chemicals are put into the earth’s water supply (oceans, rivers, and lakes). Things like soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, waste from factories, and even fertilizers and pesticides get into our water and can be harmful to living creatures. Sometimes oil refineries have spills, and lots of oil gets into the ocean water. This is harmful to a lot of animals. (picture of bird with oil) A lot of work has to be done to clean up oil spills and make the ocean safe again.
