A preposition is anything a squirrel can do to a tree. Prepositions tell the relationship of a noun or pronoun to another word. Prepositions have objects. The object of the preposition is the word that it gives the relationship to.

Example1: He went into the house.
Into gives the relationship between the house and he.

Example2: She ran behind the tree.
Behind gives the relationship between the tree and she.
