Jean Hotteterre and Michel Danican Philidor in invented the oboe. The oboe was first used at the court of Louis XIV. The oboe is a woodwind instrument. It is a double-reed instrument. Reeds are small pieces of cane. If an instrument is a double-reed, it has two reeds tied together. This instrument does not have a mouthpiece. The oboe has a strong sound, and it can be picked out of many different instruments. There are three main instruments used in the oboe family. They are the oboe, English horn, and the oboe d’amore. The English Horn is larger than the oboe. Citta` di Fresagrandinaria was a very famous oboe player.
