The flute is the oldest instrument. The first key was added in 1677. The flute is a woodwind instrument. It has three different parts. The head joint; where you put your mouth, the body; where most of the keys are located, and the foot joint, where only your right pinky goes. The flute used to be made of nothing but wood. Over the years it evolved until there is only a little piece of wood in the head joint. Historians think the earliest flute was found in China in 900 B.C. It had two complete holes and two partial holes. The Flute has been played in Western Europe and in America for 800 years. Theobald Boehm is one of the many famous flute players. He served as a Royal Bavarian Court Musician. There are several types of flutes. The Renaissance, the Baroque, and the Classical are a few examples of different types of flutes. They had different amounts of holes in the different time periods.
