- In 1528 Panfilo de Narvaez discovered the Pinellas Peninsula.
- The word Pinellas comes from the Spanish "Punta Pinal" which means Point of Pines.
- In 1912 Pinellas County separated from Hillsborough County.
- There are indian burial mounds all over Pinellas County.
- The first Pinellas County court house was built in 1912 in Clearwater.

Back in the 1870's Dunedin was called Jonesboro. Many people tried to open general goods stores, but they went out of business. Two Scotsmen named Dounglas and Somerville opened a general store and the first post office. This allowed them to name the town Dunedin, after their home in Scotland. |
