The relationships among people throughout the ages have sometimes been characterized by tensions and misunderstandings, leading to conflicts of all sorts. In Africa, a practice that dates back ages ago, has sometimes acted as a “conflict regulator”. Whether you call it “kidding”, “joking relations” in English, or “Alliance à plaisanterie” in French, this practice has played, and still plays an important role in peace-keeping  and social cohesion, not only in Burkina Faso, but also in many places in Africa, and for sure elsewhere in the world.
