Menkaure’s Pyramid is the smallest of the Pyramids of Giza. It was built by Menkaure the son of Khafre. It can be also called The Great Pyramid of Menkaure. It was finished around the 26th century B.C. It is in the Giza Necropolis. It lies a few hundred meters southwest from its larger neighbors Khufu’s pyramid and Khafre's Pyramid. (Pharaoh Menkaure built the pyramid to show the people of Egypt that “Menkaure Is Divine”).

Menkaure’s Pyramid had an original height of 65.5 meters (215ft). It now stands at 62m (203ft) tall, with a base of 105 m (344ft). It was made from limestone and granite. (Pharaoh Menkaure Pyramid is smaller than Khafre’s Pyramid because he wanted to respect his father Pharaoh Khafre).                                                       In Menkaure’s Pyramid there is a decorated chamber with carved stone panels and scented decorations. The pyramid was first excavated in 1837 by two men named Perring and Vyse. A piece of the pyramid was not covered because of Pharaoh Menkaure’s sudden death. Before you get to the burial chamber, there is a chamber that could have been used to put the king’s personal things like, foods, bronze mirrors, and hunting tools of King Menkaure.                                      Inside Menkaure’s burial chamber there is a lidless basalt sarcophagus.  Inside of the sarcophagus there is a wooden mummified coffin. It has his name engraved in it.  At the pyramids entrance there is words on the wall that records the date when he died. He died on August 23, 2503 B.C, while building the pyramid. His name was written in red ochre in one of his subsidiary (an extra chamber) chambers.
