During the day, children went to school. Only boys went to school. The girls would stay home with their mothers to learn how to do things around the house. They would even learn how to weave.

But not all boys would go to school. Only the wealthy boys went to school. The poorer boys stayed home to work on the farm with their fathers.

The boys that could go to school would work next to or in the temples. Their teacher was a priest. The scholars started to train when they were the age of nine.            Children that were in school were taught to read and write Hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics are symbols Egyptians used to read and write. The letters they used in Hieroglyphics were different than our alphabet. They have some vowels, but not all.
