 He was the original god of the underworld until Osiris took over the job. After that, he became one of the sons Osiris and Psychopomp (he is the conductor of the souls) of the under world.

        Many prayers are written to Anubis at temples and tombs. They write the prayers to him because he watches over mummification to make sure it is done properly. Anubis also tests the under world’s souls to see their knowledge of the gods and their faith.

Anubis is not the only name for this god. His other names include Anpu, Inpu, Ienpw, and Imeut. He has a head like a jackal. Only his head is black. Anubis’ black head represents that he is the god of the dead.
