Asthma

Note: This is only tested in the St. John's Ambulance syllabus.

Signs of Asthma

  • Difficulty in Breathing
  • Difficulty in Speaking
  • Blueness of Face and Lips
  • Wheezing
  • Distress
  • Anxiety

Treatment

Reassure the casualty, help them to sit down and lean forward slightly, and ask about the casualty's inhaler. If the inhaler is available, get them to take it.

Calling an Ambulance

You do not need to call an ambulance unless this is the first attack, it is prolonged or seems to be getting worse.
