Learning Life Support in Your Area

  • The Royal Life Saving Society has a handy page for finding out the contact information for your nearest branch, simply select your county and an address and phone number will be displayed for you.
  • The St. John's Ambulance website also has detailed information about lifesaving close to you, simply select your county and it will find the addresses of all of their centres in your county.
  • The British Red Cross also has a branch finder, although you have to select your region and then county before seeing any contact details.

Courses

It would take too long to find every life support course around, however, the best way for you to find a course is to go to your nearest leisure centre and ask them:

  • Do you offer Life Support courses?
  • Do you cover Life Support 1, 2 or 3?
  • When can I start and how long are they?

Most leisure centres offer such courses, which are usually run in the evenings, or at week-ends. We asked several local leisure centres the above questions, and were presented with the following information:

Sudbury
  • We phoned Sudbury pool who confirmed that they offered Life Support training in at least the Pool Lifeguard qualification (which includes Life Support 3), but the operator was unable to be specific about any other Life Support courses.
Blackwater, Maldon
  • Blackwater offer Pool Lifeguard tuition (in the form of a many week course) and separate Life Support courses, normally together with the Bronze Medallion and Award of Merit certificates.
Bramston, Witham
  • Bramston offer a Pool Lifeguard course (in the form of a short 7-day intensive course) which includes Life Support 3.
  • In addition, a Bronze Medallion course is offered which also covers Life Supports 1 & 3, as well as Award of Merit.
  • A separate Rookie Life Support and Lifesaving class is offered for those under 12.
  • Both courses are run on a Saturday Morning.
Colchester
  • Colchester Leisure Centre's website details the Lifesaving courses they offer, which include Bronze Medallion (prerequisite Life Support 1), Award of Merit (Prerequisite Life Support 1) and Pool Lifeguard (Life Support 3 incorporated).
We have striven to make this information as accurate and as up-to-date as possible.
