Tortoises in Trouble
  Did you know that due to changes to the environment caused by humans, the numbers of ravens, a natural predator to the desert tortoise, in tortoise areas is increasing?
Ravens are a natural predator to desert tortoises. They feast on newly hatched tortoises and pose a serious threat to them.
Gila monsters, kit foxes, badgers, roadrunners, coyotes, and fire ants are all natural predators of the desert tortoise.
In the 1920s, there were over 1,000 California desert tortoises per square mile of the Mojave Desert. They are now listed as an endangered animal.
