Almost everybody will be familiar with this section. That is, what level music piracy has reached in todays society worldwide. StreamingStreaming is defined as playing sound or video in real time as it is downloaded over the Internet as opposed to storing it in a local file first. A plug-in to a web browser such as Netscape Navigator or Windows Media Player decompresses and plays the data as it is transferred to your computer over the World-Wide Web. Streaming audio or video avoids the delay entailed in downloading an entire file and then playing it with a helper application. This form of online media use is not being used enough and its getting a lot more attention from big corporations and artists as the best way to put themselves out there and keep making profit. This is explained more in the Future section of the Developments page, since it is one of the things that is being greater developed for use in the future. Applications/ProgramsIf anyone downloads music most people have ot use an application or a program to do it. We all have our favorites whether it is Kazaa, Cabos, Limewire, or whatever. In the end all these applications and sites contribute to one thing which we don’t think about to much. That is getting music or othermedia files for absolutely no cost or recognition to the person who ceated it. Although many use it to get older songs that are out of print, or to discover new artists, we all use it to get free music. Many of these programs have been shut down or are in lawsuits over their operation. Still many other have moved on to another kind of music downloading. Online Music Stores (Payed Downloading)Some programs such as iTunes music store or Napster have moved on to charging small amounts of money for songs and other media files. Although cheaper than buying the actual thing it is still not free, and many other popel prefer to use the costless methods. |
