Genes are found in strips of DNA.  DNA is contained in the nucleus of a cell in formations called chromatin.  

 

    DNA contains the pattern of four chemicals: adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine (A, T, C, and G for short).  When combined in different orders, these chemicals determine very important things for your body.  The order that your DNA contains the four chemicals determines the type and order of amino acids that each cell takes in.  There are several different types of elements in amino acids.  They contain nitrogen, carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and some contain sulphur or phosphorus.

Different types of amino acids determine the type of protein that your body makes.

 

    Our bodies are constantly makes thousands of proteins from 20-24 different amino acids.  By ourselves, our bodies can make about ten of these. We have to get the rest of our “essential” amino acids from the foods that we eat.  We must get the proper ratio of amino acids to one another so that our protein production occurs properly.  Our bodies may not produce all of the necessary proteins that help repair and build healthy cells for us if just one of our “essential” amino acids are missing.  Studies that have been conducted have shown that nine out of every ten people have a deficiency in their protein production because their diets don’t have the correct amounts or kinds of amino acids needed in order to stay fully healthy.
