My experience with DCI

Having realized that the use of pirated software was unethical from a young age, I sought, as much as possible, to stick to legal copies of copyrighted work. It was with much difficulty that I persuaded my parents to do the same, to purchase original software for use on the family computer.

The financial constraints of such a policy, however, eventually prompted my to move away from copyrighted work into a newly growing field - free ware. Now, most of my software comprises of free ware downloaded from the Internet.

My Stand on DCI

While I myself do not engage in DCI, it is largely due to my upbringing and morals; I personally find it unethical to consume without giving proper remuneration.

Ethical concerns, aside, however, I do in fact feel that DCI has benefits to society which could in fact justify it. In addition, I personally do not believe that the act of DCI per se impacts the profits earned by the creative industry adversely.

Influence of my religion and socio-economic status on my views

Being a freethinker, religious beliefs do not affect my viewpoint on DCI. This is coupled with the fact that I am a staunch believer of logic and rationality. While being born into a middle-income family has allowed me to experience some of the dilemmas faced by those unable to afford original copyrighted work, I do believe that even if I were from a more well-to-do financial background, my analysis of and beliefs on DCI would remain the same.
