I. Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an
external force is applied to it.
Newton's laws were formatted over one hundred years ago, however they still work today.
These laws are also still used today to calculate the motion of almost everything.
Newton's first law in known as the Law of Inertia.
Newton's first law means that an object should keep moving at the same speed unless an outside force is acting on it.
This can also mean that an object not moving will not move unless acted upon by an outside force.
Although this law applies to everything we do every day it makes more since to an scientist.
For us to understand how an object can move, we just need to know what forces will acting on it.
Some of the most common forces are:
1) The first is one that you have to deal with everyday throughout your whole life: gravity.
Our earths gravity is constantly pulling us to the center of the earth this makes it possible for you to jump into the air
and you exert a force that pushes you up from the ground.
Because the forces is grater than gravity you go up. But once your in the air
gravity pulls you back down to the ground.
A second familiar force is called contact force. This force occurs when two objects are touching each other.
Try the following activity to demonstrate this law!
