Action in the Pacific

World War 2

During World War 2, the Soviet Union fought alongside the USA and the Commonwealth against Nazi Germany and Japan.  However, the Capitalist West and the Communist East still distrusted each others system of government; this became clear once the Allies had won the war.  The situation was made all the tenser by the arrival of nuclear warheads, which had been used to devastating effect on the Japanese towns of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  The dividing up of Germany and other defeated countries between the Allied nations was another cause of tension between the two superpowers.
