Medulla Oblongata

The medulla oblongata has tract corresponding to sensory and motor skills that connect the spinal cord to the brain. At the front of the medulla oblongata, are two bulges that are made of two large motor tracts that pass to the spinal cord, these are called the pyramids. The axons of the right pyramid cross over to the left pyramid and the axons of the left pyramid cross over to the right pyramid, therefore, the right pyramid controls the left skeletal muscles and the left, the right skeletal muscles.
