Kilauea is the youngest volcano in Hawaii. Over the past few decades scientists have found out that Kilauea has its own magma plumbing system that extends 60 km into the earth. It has been erupting scince 1983 and still is. Hawaiian chants are yelled from Kilauea since it's the home of Pele, the goddess of ancient Hawaiian legends. Since 1952 there's been over 34 eruptions. It is the most active volcano on earth! It stands almost 4200 feet high! Since January 1983 it has produced 2.7 km of lava and has added 205 hectares to Kilauea's southern shore. The lava has destroyed 181 houses and has destroyed the 700 year old Hawaiian temple.
