Introduction

Have you ever been asked, whether Hong Kong Disneyland or Ocean Park is better? Or have any of your relatives who live overseas asked for your opinion about Hong Kong Disneyland and Ocean Park? In this project, we would explore and make a comparison between the two major theme parks of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Disneyland, which opened one and a half year ago, is deeply rooted in western culture. Many famous cartoon characters, such as Mickey and Pluto, have inspired many hearts of young children in Hong Kong. ?The first Disneyland in China, despite its size, was bound to create a “Wow” among Hong Kong people. Perhaps many years ago, who could have imagined that a theme park modeled on American ideas would be built in a Chinese city like Hong Kong ? However, things went haywire at its opening and Hong Kong Disneyland has received severe criticisms from the press. Even though the park takes criticism from the public that its quality of service and attendance record has not made expectations, we have to realize that the park is only at its infant stage, and its staff currently lacks experience. We are optimistic that as time goes by, the management will become more capable to cope with difficult situations. For sure, Hong Kong Disneyland now plays an important role in the local tourism industry, and will always be.

And how about Ocean Park? Acting as the “senior” of the Hong Kong tourism industry for the past few decades, Ocean Park has a clear advantage of being an indigenous “resident” of Hong Kong. Its aim is not only to provide entertainment, but also for educational purposes for the younger generation on aquatic life, such as dolphins and seals. Ocean Park is also a popular tourist attraction as it provides relatively cheaper food and services than Hong Kong Disneyland. On average, Hong Kong citizens have been to Ocean Park more than once, which implies that Ocean Park is one of popular locations where people would like to spend their day.
So, in the hearts of Hong Kong citizens, who would win? The mouse or the seal? Let’s see!
