Cosmetics on our wrinkly skin can smoothen the rough edges, moisturize the skin and make it more supple.
Well, what do you think? But don't be relieved, for cosmetics can do other things to your skin.
Most beauty products contain chemicals that may cause cancer and hormonal problems and can irritate our skin. Three ingredients that are found in cosmetics are particularly harmful to our bodies and they are:-
1. Preserving agents which are frequently found in body creams. They are known to cause breast cancer and skin problems.
2. Foaming agents which are frequently used in shampoos. They are known to cause skin irritation.
3. Disinfectant which are found in shampoos and handwash. They can make the skin flare up and are known to cause asthma and headaches.
In a study conducted by the University of Southern California on 7th February 2001, it was said that people who work as a hair stylist have a much higher risk of bladder cancer than the general population.
Children tend to be more sensitive to fragrances found in cosmetics and they will develop allergic reactions more easily than adults.
We should study the label on the cosmetics to find out what substances and chemicals they contain. Once we develop an allergic reaction to the products, we must immediately stop using them and see a skin specialist.
