The New Tacoma Narrows Bridge, in Washington state, is scheduled to open to the public in the summer of 2007. The new bridge is being built to replace the old Tacoma Narrows Bridge, which collapsed during the 1950s. The new bridge is a twin bridge, with 4 lanes of vehicle traffic. Compare this to the 2 lanes of the old Tacoma Narrows Bridge. The bridge is being built to help reduce congestion on the state route corridor 16, which is currently at a very high traffic density, which is projected to raise even higher in the next 15 years. |
