The Decline of the Etruscans:
At the end of the Etruscans long reign in Italy, many things went bad for them.  The once Etruscan ruled city of Rome, broke free and gained its independence. They also lost their hold over the seas, when the Greek Italians defeated them in a major defeat.  The overall effect of this was that the Etruscans lost their hegemony over Italy. Rome completely conquered Etruria in 246 BCE, after two and a half centuries of long fighting. Rome had a regard for the civilization and did not completely destroy the empire, but they took over, and slowly wore away the language, and customs and made Etruria their own.
