The United States Marines are different from the other branches of the military because the Marines don’t just fight on land they also fight in the water. The Marines were founded in 1775 in Pennsylvania. The Marines are a part of the department of Navy. The motto of the Marines is Semper Fidelis which is Latin for always faithful. The British Army has the same motto. When we interviewed Lance Corporal Carmona he told us that the Marines consider themselves warriors. Marines have to go through intense recruit training which turns civilians into Marines. The Marine Corps do advanced training such as urban warfare training and mountain warfare training. Training for the Marines is much more intense than any other branch of the military. This training prepares them to be ready for battle. The Marines have an emblem. The emblem is an anchor going through the Earth with an eagle on top. The earth and anchor is a sign which means the worldwide service and sea traditions. The eagle has its wings spread out. That represents the nation. The motto Semper Fidelis is written on the beak of the bird. |
