The person we interviewed has requested for us not to use his real name. We are not allowed to use his real name because he is a part of Homeland Security. Homeland Security protects America and if someone gets this information it could be dangerous for him. So, we are going to be calling this member of the military John Doe to protect him and our country. John Doe volunteered to be in the United States Coast Guard. He explains that the Coast Guard is under the Department of Homeland Security. It’s Homeland Security’s job to protect the United States. Homeland security has a lot of missions. His job is protecting U.S. ports and waterways. This job is really important because as you may know the world is mainly water. If someone tries to sneak in harmful things it’s his job to prevent it from coming into America. The Coast Guard routinely conducts search and rescue missions. This mean they may search for people and things in or on our waters. For example, if someone may be lost at sea or their boat ran out of gas, it’s their job to search for them and rescue them. When we asked Mr. Doe about training he told us that he received a lot of training and still is. He explained they are “always training in order to perfect their abilities and to ensure optimal readiness.” John Doe also explained to us about the food. They have a cook who is also a service member and that his job is to make sure that they are well fed. He told us that the cook does an excellent job. John Doe doesn’t get a chance to see his family that often. He may get a chance a few months from now. We asked if he has met anyone special or made friends in the Coast Guard. He let us know that he has met good people in the Coast Guard, and hopes to remain friends with many of them. Just like Lance Corporal Carmona, John Doe told us that he is honored to fight for his country. We are happy that he’s protecting us! |
