The United States Coast Guard is one of the five branches of the military. The Coast Guard has approximately 38,000 active duty men and women. They are responsible for the coastal defense, protection of life and property at sea and enforcement of customs. During an average day, the Coast Guard will conduct about 109 rescue cases and save at least 10 lives. The Coast Guard will also board 144 vessels and seize approximately 475 pounds of illegal drugs which is approximately worth $9,589,000. These are only some of the duties they do in an average day. To join the US Coast Guard you must be a United States citizen or a Resident Alien. You must also be between the ages of 17-27 and have a high school diploma . The Coast Guard will give you a military entrance exam which you will have to pass. |
