Occupational Problems
The misuse of the Internet by employees during working hours is a worrying concern for managers. A survey from the America’s top 1,000 companies revealed that 55% of executives believed that the time browsing Internet sites for leisure purposes is affecting their efficiency adversely. One firm tracked all the traffic going across its Internet connection and found out that only 23% of the usage was business-related. Any squandering of the company’s resources and time in the workplace is a complication for managers, especially as corporations are supplying employees with a tool that can be easily exploited for recreational purposes.
Hence, employees that are addicted to the Internet may be retrenched if they were not able to suppress their desire and are caught using their companies’ network resources for their own entertainment.
