Posture
is often dismissed as a mere social display
of politeness, but if that’s what you
believe, think again. Being in a poor posture
for lengthy spells regularly will have a more
aversive effect on your body than on your
social reputation. If your seated slouching
in front of a computer for long periods of
time, the only moving parts of your body being
the repetitive small movements of your fingers
and wrists, your going to compromise the structure
of your body. Some of the implications will
be immediate, such as placing unusual strains
on our spines and the ligaments in our wrists.
Of a more important note though, is the fact
that long periods of immobility will introduce
habits of muscular tension that may last for
life, potentially changing our lifestyles.
2.
Breathing and Blood Circulation:
When
being stationary for extended periods
of time while doing work that demands
little energy, we tend to breathe in
a very shallow manner. If such shallow
breathing persist, it will result in
large amounts of residual stale air
left in the lungs, reducing the oxygen
intake efficiency of our blood. Our
blood oxygen levels plummet and the
blood supply to our muscles, our digestive
system, internal organs and to our brain
gets victimized, resulting in our organs
and brains to work at a non-optimal
level. This can affect everything from
something as trivial as the frequency
of headaches we experience to our mental
efficiency, immunity system, hearts
and not to mention our sex drive too.

they hardly have time to eat
3.
Digestive System and Skin Health:
After
a sumptuous meal of what may be the
world’s healthiest (and delicious)
foods, you decide to plant yourself
in front of the computer screen and
surf the endless waves of the internet.
Do you believe your doing no harm to
your body?
“But
mommy says do not jump or run about
after eating!”
Yes,
and mommy did not say to be a couch
potato immediately after eating either.
Peristalsis,
which is a series of contractions and
relaxations along parts of our alimentary
canal (digestive system) that
results
in a series of wave-like motions along
our digestive tracts, eases and moves
food along. However, unnecessary tensions
such as compressing our abdominal muscles
by hunching will hinder peristalsis
and potentially cause indigestion. When
you suffer indigestion, your body could
not absorb the nutrients it needs, you
feel miserable, and you fall sick.
Smooth
muscle movement, light exercise and
even breathing drives our lymphatic
system, primarily responsible for waste
removal from tissues and cells throughout
the body. If our digestion is sluggish
we feel just the same and whatever we
put in our mouth is not digested properly.
If our lymph is sluggish, our skin health
is poor, our breath and body odour may
stink and our pimples will be worse.

What about Eye Health?
Be
wary of the cathode ray tube monitor that you
are staring at. It’s cathode guns are
constantly shooting electrons straight in your
face, which is not a very good idea. Yet many
people are uninformed about this fact due to
the vested economical interests implicated.
Like the mobile phone issue, beaming radio waves
into your skull from point blank range is definitely
not a good idea.
Decades
later we will look back and realize how foolish
we were to make our eyes undergo such abuse.
To
maintain optimum optical health and efficiency,
we should
utilize
our eyes more to look at objects of all sorts
of shapes, sizes and colours. We should regularly
look at objects both far and close distance so
that our ciliary muscles do not overtire and develop
myopia.

Sleep
To
accommodate excessive use of Internet, sleep
patterns of addicts are typically disrupted
due to late night log-ins. They typically stay
up past normal bedtime hours and may report
staying on-line until two, three, or four in
the morning with the reality of having to wake
for work or school at six or seven in the morning.
In extreme cases, caffeine pills are used to
facilitate longer Internet sessions. Such sleep
deprivation causes excessive fatigue, often
making academic or occupational functioning
impaired
and may decrease one’s immune system,
leaving the patient vulnerable to disease.
