Biomedical explanations
From a biological viewpoint, there may be a combination of genes that make a person more susceptible to addictive behaviors, just like the case where researchers have located genes that affect a person's susceptibility to alcohol. Other explanations include chemical imbalances and neurotransmitters. There could be chromosomes, hormones, and surplus or lack of certain necessary chemicals and neurotransmitters that regulate activity in the brain and the rest of the nervous system. According to this perspective, this would cause an individual to be prone to addiction.

Some researchers think that there are chemical changes that occur in the body when someone is engaging in an addictive behavior. True enough, there is definitive research that shows that

some drugs act to fill in the synaptic gaps of the neurons in the brain, confusing the operation of the brain and making the brain send out faulty information. A few researchers are comparing the Internets effects to marijuana as a psycho-stimulant. They argue that the chemicals in marijuana activate the same stimuli as the Internet. Both of these may be the reasons for ecstasy one experiences when engaging in the fun and exciting activities on the Internet and hence leading to the individual contracting Internet Addiction Disorder.
