Obesity in China

“It’s not surprising that with this increase in calories, you’re seeing rising rates of obesity.” –Dr. Robert Keith

Obesity rises by eight percent among children in China every year.

Technology is to blame for the increase of obesity. Since China’s economy has been gradually increasing over the years, their lifestyle has accelerated and they tend to eat more fast foods. Now they eat foods with more calories and don’t do anything to work it off. Their improving culture led them to sit at home, eating burgers while watching TV, or staring at their computer screen, or driving in their car.

Since China has a one-child policy, everyone in the extended family tend to give all of their attention to that one boy or girl and end up overfeeding them. Plus, most of those kids can get whatever they want, at any time, meaning more foods and meals during the day, and more ‘lazy technology’ that does not require any physical activity.

Chen Chaogang, a university doctor in China, also adds that his country has recently suffered from a mass starvation, so now parents don’t want to ever have their family starve again. So they give their children more food, making sure they don’t starve as well.

The West played a huge role in spreading the disease of obesity. "Heart attacks, previously almost unheard of, are now affecting those in their thirties and forties.” Another reason for this is because parents. They like their children to be a little fat, maybe because of what happened in the past or because of their culture and traditions. Parents in China don't want to see their kids' bones from the outside anymore.

LazinessObesity levels have increased because of the "lazy technology" that everyone is able to access.
