Obesity is caused by eating more calories than the body can burn. Although obesity is linked to eating high-fat foods, it can also be linked to the environment, genetics, hormones, culture and behavior. All of these play a role in obesity. It is not always because of the way people eat.
Genetics/hormones controls how the body handles the food. Some people are able to burn the fat faster than others, genetically. Other people might tend to store fat around the abdomen, more than anywhere else. Environment/culture can affect how much a person eats, including the type of foods they eat. Because USA is a very fast-paced country, people eat more fast foods outside of their homes. Fast foods are generally high in calories and not healthy to eat every day. From that, their behaviors change and people get used to the lifestyle of everything fast. A change in their eating habits would be really hard to break because they are used to eating those fast foods, mainly because it’s quick and cheap. This behavior was shaped by the influence of the environment and culture, and worsened by their genes and hormones.
