About Obesity

“There are more than 1 billion overweight adults worldwide and at least 300 million who are clinically obese.”

“By 2020, there will be 5 million deaths attributable to overweight and obesity…” According to the WHO (World Health Organization), obesity mostly occurs among the poor. Basically, people who don’t have money, tend to buy foods that are cheaper, and most of the time, cheaper foods are fatter, which come in bigger serving sizes as well. Obesity is classified as a disease that basically destroys the quality of life and life expectancy. It destroys life socially and physically. Many diseases result from it. Food, for the most part, contributes to obesity, but little or no exercising also has a role.

However, there are a lot of other consequences that come from obesity, like Cardiovascular Disease (CVD), heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other chronic diseases. For that reason, obesity is a huge issue, not only in America, but around the world as well. Although, some countries, specifically those from the Third World, don't have any obesity problems at all, yet they have malnutrition issues. It is ironic to think that countries like the United States are stuffing their bodies with all the food while other countries are starving.“Obesity and type 2 diabetes are casually linked.”

There is a global issue on obesity and The International Obesity TaskForce (IOTF) finally recognized this as a problem. Now they’re trying to plan better nutrition that would help prevent obesity and diabetes.

Also, food and drink organizations also noticed this international issue. They want to improve their image and they don’t want to seem like they’re making everyone gain so much weight. The IOTF said that they will sit down and start working out how they’re going to reduce fat, sugar and salt content in most of the every-day foods. By doing this, the health of the world will increase and the burden of weight-related diseases will lift off our shoulders.
