The Government’s Role

The Department of Homeland Security received the service of service and benefit functions from the Immigration and Naturalization on the date of March 1, 2003. From there a new establishment was formed called the United States Citizen and Immigration Services. Eduardo Aguirre was chosen by the president to become the leader of the USCIS. On the date of June 19, 2003, he was assured from the perspective of the Senate. The role that the USCIS plays in Immigration is to administrate immigration and naturalization as well as manage immigration priorities, policies, and services. It was also responsible for settling immigration visa petitions, refugee applications, naturalization petitions, the settlements of the INS, and service center services.
The USCIS consists of 250 Headquarters and offices around the world, along with 15,000 builders and federal workers. It also supports the Department of Homeland Security by advocating national security in the fight against illegal immigration, but also in improving its services. The USCIS provides help for those of an immigrant or non-immigrant background. What it offers are document issuance and renewal for authentic documentation on immigrants, special status programs for settling the status of an immigrant, naturalization for approval for people wishing to become U.S. citizens, asylum and refugee processing for settlement of their status, family-based petitions for adjudication of family immigration and residency in the U.S., and employment-based positions for temporary residency in the U.S.
