Drifting to a Pricey New Place

In recent news, many illegal Chinese immigrants are now traveling to Seattle by ships in shipping containers.  The twenty two stowaways each paid a hefty sum of money just to be here in the US.

These people had came from Shanghai, a main base for human smuggling where each of them paid 10,000 dollars for the trip to the US (Turnbull). In their journey to the US, these people had to endure a two week cramped living area. Their living conditions were unhealthy, there was no fresh air for the people to breathe, and there was no light for them to see in their musty quarters. All these people had were just blankets and packages of food.

The stowaways got caught after some of them were found wandering around the ship. Now all of them are “detained” at the department of homeland security and is now pleading for asylum for which the immigration court has not decided yet.
