Male reproductive system
The male reproductive system is in charge of making the sperm cells to fertilize an egg in the woman. There are 2 kinds of reproductive systems, and they must both combine to make babies. In the male reproductive system, the sperm is produced, and in the female, the egg. The sperm is what fertilizes an egg in the woman. Without sperm, the egg can not be formed into a baby.
Unlike the female, that all her sex organs are inside the body, the male has sex organs that are outside and inside of the body. The male sex organs include the testicles, the duct system, the accessory glands and the penis.
In a guy, when they reach puberty, the 2 testicles are what produce the sperm. The testicles are oval shaped and can grow up to 2 inches. The testicles lie outside the body because it needs to be cool in order to produce the sperm. Sperm can not be produced inside the body because it is too warm. After the sperm is developed, it is then stored in what is called the epididymis or also known as the “housing area”.
The testicles are also a main part in the endocrine system because they produce the hormones which play a major role during puberty. These hormones are called testosterones. Testosterones are what makes a guy change its voice, develop bigger muscles, develop body and facial hair, and also helps in the production of sperm cells.
The penis is made up of 2 parts: the shaft and the glans. The shaft is the main part of the penis and the glans is the tip of the penis (aka the head). At the end of the head, is a small opening, which is where the semen or urine comes out through. When the male is sexually excited, blood enters into the penis and makes it grow. This is called an erection. When the penis is erect, it means that it is ready for sexual intercourse.
There are some things that can go wrong with the male reproductive system. Here is a list of some of the things that can happen:
Testicular Trauma: A really small injury can cause this to happen. When this happens you usually feel severe pain, bruising or swelling in the testicles. This happens mostly when the testicles are kicked, hit or crushed. Usually happens during sports. Sometimes there has to be surgery to fix this problem.
Testicular Cancer: This kind of cancer is most common in men younger than 40. This occurs when cells in the testicles divide, something that is not normal, and then develops a tumor. If the tumor is detected early, the cancer can be prevented.
Inflammation of the penis: Symptoms of this are redness, itching, swelling, and pain. Doctors have found that this is connected to yeast or bacterial infections.
